Ross Hall was raised in Texas and Colorado. He graduated from the Illinois Technical Institute of Photography before moving to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1931.

Ross first received national attention for "The Forest Christening" which was published by The New York Times in 1933. Subsequently, his work went on to be featured in nearly all of the major periodicals of his day.

Masterful techniques and an artist's documentary vision established Ross Hall photographs as some of the most popular images of the era. By the 1940's and with the help of his wife Hazel, Ross completed a 28 room studio, employed nearly 100 people, and was honored by Eastman Kodak as one of the preeminent photographers in the country.

Dann Hall, son of the late Ross Hall, is curator of "The Ross Hall Collection" and owner of the Hallans Gallery. He may be contacted through the email link below or by phone and address information located on the Ordering and Information page.
